Scaling and Root Planing (Non-Surgical Gum Treatment)

Scaling and Root Planing is a non-surgical “deep cleaning” treatment that has tremendous benefits in the early stages of gum disease. Special instruments remove bacteria and infection from around the teeth below the gum line.

The tooth is first scaled to remove plaque and calculus accumulation. Then the root surface is planed or smoothed thus eliminating rough areas on the root that can easily trap plaque and bacteria. Gum tissue can more firmly attach to roots that are clean and smooth, thereby preventing tooth loss, harmful bacteria accumulation, and sensitivity.
