Preventive Care In order to develop a personalized oral health care plan we begin each appointment with a thorough exam of your teeth, gums, bone, jaw joints and soft tissue. Amalgam/Mercury Filling Removal The doctors of King St. Dental Wellness Center focus on patient education. Evidence shows that amalgam fillings have a negative impact on overall health. Amalgam fillings weaken teeth, very often leading to cracked teeth and mercury vapor released in the mouth simply by chewing release a toxin into your body. Due to health risks involved with amalgam, we follow the following safety protocol recommended by of the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology (IAOMT) and other prominent biological and holistic dental organizations: ..................-use of a rubber dam After the mercury is removed, we restore the tooth with safe, biocompatible materials. The mercury that is removed is isolated from our patients and staff and disposed of responsibly. In addition, we have installed a special water filtration system that separates the mercury so it does not go down the drain and pollute the environment. Bonding What is composite bonding? Bonding is a form of smile sculpture accomplished with a special composite resin, which enables patients with imperfections in their teeth to have more attractive smiles for an affordable price. Bonding can be used to close spaces, change the color of the teeth, mask any discolorations, repair chips, alter the size or shape of teeth, and give mal-aligned or crooked teeth a straight-looking appearance. How is it done? Bonding is a simple procedure, but it may require getting your other teeth to a pleasing color first, through whitening. First, a solution is painted on the tooth enamel. A liquid resin is then flowed onto the tooth surface. A putty-like resin is then sculpted on the tooth and hardened with a bright light to a durable finish. It is polished and smoothed to a life-like luster. The bonding process is usually reversible. Depending on the number of teeth involved, one visit of several hours is usually all that is needed. How long does it last? The life of bonding is 8 - 10 years depending on your lifestyle. If you drink, smoke or use your teeth as “tools”, you may not see the entire life expectancy of your bonding. At the end of the bonding's term, a resurfacing (1/2 the cost) usually suffices. A complete re-bonding rarely is necessary. Allergies At King St. Dental Wellness Center we recognize that patients may have sensitivities or allergies to certain products. Although we use safe, bio-compatible materials, sometimes it is still necessary to do allergy testing. Orthodontics Orthodontics does more than make a pretty smile - it creates a healthier you. Crowded teeth are more difficult to properly brush and floss, which may contribute to tooth decay and/or gum disease. Protruding teeth are more susceptible to accidental chipping. Cross-bites can result in unfavorable growth and uneven tooth wear. Open bites can result in tongue - thrusting habits and speech impediments.
